Construction workers on an apartment project in downtown Denver allege wage theft against several companies. The complaint filed in U.S. District Court Thursday says in part that immigrant workers were not paid overtime wages they earned.
Towards Justice, which provides legal support for low-wage workers, filed the lawsuit. Executive director Nina DiSalvo says wage theft in construction is rampant.
"This is a problem we need to attack on a variety of fronts, both to help workers but also to help companies and to help our economy grow," he said.
DiSalvo hopes to get the case certified as a class action, which could add thousands of workers across multiple states. The companies named in the complaint couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
