Republican Steve Barlock, a real estate broker who says he wants to fight the Republican establishment and take on what he calls the “Colorado swamp,” announced his candidacy Wednesday in the Colorado governor’s race.
Barlock was an outspoken Donald Trump supporter and an alternate delegate at the Republican National Convention last year. He said he wants to work on the solvency of Colorado’s state pension fund and “offer a budget that’s fair for all of Colorado.”
Barlock joins a crowded field with a half dozen Democrats and Republicans who have filed to run for the race next year.
Among the other Republicans who have filed is George Brauchler, the Arapahoe County district attorney. Republicans are also awaiting an announcement from Republican state treasurer Walker Stapleton.
