Genetic study of the Preble's meadow jumping mouse has challenged its threatened status under the Endangered Species Act. Findings indicate that it is not uniquely different from other jumping mice in the west, leading to criticism of the United States Fish and Wildlife Service for its 1998 listing decision. Rob Roy Ramey, chair of zoology at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, conducted the study and talks about the issue.
