Walid Bou-Mater tells his friend Janine Rider about growing up in Lebanon in the years after an earthquake destroyed his family home. Bou-Mater has stayed involved in the orphanage where he lived as a child; he recently helped raise the money to buy a new generator for the facility. Bou-Mater's son is married to Rider's daughter. They interviewed each other while StoryCorps was on the Western Slope in August.
