A high-level Army official will be in Southern Colorado Tuesday/today to talk about long-debated expansion plans for a military training facility in the area.
Assistant Secretary of the Army Katherine Hammack will tour the Pinon Canyon Maneuver Site with Colorado Senator Mark Udall.
The two will also meet with nearby residents.
The Army says the facility, in the southeastern part of the state, is essential to its training programs.
But expansion plans have been a thorn in the side of residents, many of whom lost land when the Army took over the area decades ago.
Reporter Peter Roper, with The Pueblo Chieftain has been following the story for the past 7 years, and provides this refresher.
