The two miners died of carbon monoxide poisoning after apparently entering part of the mine where an explosive had been detonated earlier.
The original mine dates back to the 1870s and ended its operations in the 1940s.
But a company named Star Mine Operations reopened it again this year.
And as Ellen Smith, the publisher of Mine Safety and Health News, tells CPR’s Ryan Warner, this mine has been cited for several safety violations since it came back on line.
