Two are dead in separate avalanches in Colorado this week. KRCC’s Elaina Formby reports.
One avalanche caught two snowmobilers, killing one near Kebler Pass, west of Crested Butte. Another avalanche by the North Fork Swan River, south of Keystone Ski Resort, caught two skiers. One escaped, the other, a man in his 40s from the Front Range, was found dead at 11:30 this morning.
According to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center, these deaths are the ninth and tenth this season nationally. The center has issued a special avalanche advisory for most of the Rockies, including the Front Range, San Juan, and Sawatch Zones, effective through tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. The Center says backcountry conditions are dangerous, and does not recommend travel in or below avalanche terrain.
The Durango Herald is also reporting on three men who survived a recent avalanche.
