Courtney Barnett has been making waves internationally in the past year, and it's easy to hear why: she's one of the finest wordsmiths in the music game today.
Her lyrics burst with wit, humor, and deliberation all across last year's "The Double EP: A Sea of Split Peas." Breakout song "Avant Gardener" covers topics ranging from meth labs to "Pulp Fiction," all delivered in her unmistakable deadpan.
Barnett and her two-piece backing band stopped in the CPR Performance Studio before her headlining show at Denver's Larimer Lounge on July 1.
In addition to "Avant Gardener," she performed "Split Peas" highlights "David" and "History Eraser," and spoke with host Keefer Fulgham about where her bizarre and charming lyrics originate, the rise of notably great bands coming out of her native Australia, and covering INXS' "Kick" album in its entirety live.
