Heavy precipitation is causing hazardous conditions throughout much of Southern Colorado. KRCC’s Rachel Gonchar has more.
The most rain is expected in El Paso County and should last until midday tomorrow.
Paul Wolyn is a Meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Pueblo. He says Tropical Storm Simon is only partly responsible for the current precipitation.
"The other moisture source," says Wolyn, "is we have a cold front that passed through and its bringing in deep north east flow with moisture from the high plains and that’s also contributing to the heavy rainfall which occurred in El Paso County that occurred late this morning and into the early afternoon."
Wolyn predicts area moisture totals to be over an inch. Up to a foot of snow is possible in the mountainous regions.
Another cold weather system is expected on Sunday with more moderate temperatures following next week.
