The Colorado Springs Gazette reports a tweet from Lt. Gen. Michelle Johnson's official Twitter account Wednesday invited DeGeneres to the school in Colorado Springs.
@andylassner how bout 1st female ldr @USAFA_Supt visit @TheEllenShow or U bring show 2 @AF_Academy? Can work @AFThunderbirds flight 4 Ellen
Neither DeGeneres nor her producers immediately responded to the invitation. "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" appears on NBC.
Johnson's tweet noted she is the first woman to lead the school, a fact she seldom mentions.
Academy spokesman Meade Warthen confirmed the tweet was authentic. He said Johnson wants to raise the school's profile.
The Thunderbirds squadron performs a fly-over at academy's May graduation ceremony. The pilots sometimes take celebrities aloft for publicity flights.
