Aurora voters have rejected a ballot measure which would have repealed a ban on incentives for a motorsports facility. The city of Aurora reports that 51 percent of voters said no to Measure 2J.
If the measure passed, it would have allowed the city to offer incentives to a speedway developer, crucial to bringing a NASCAR-style raceway to the Denver metro area, according to the Aurora Sentinel.
The ban on providing economic incentives to a racetrack was passed in 1999 and added to the city’s charter.
