Pikes Peak Summit House is getting a makeover and now we know what it will look like.
Local granite and beetle-kill pine will be featured in the design, and on the technical side, solar panels will deliver up to 40 percent of the energy for the building, reports the Colorado Springs Gazette.
Colorado Springs presented four options to the public in October, and found the most support for a design that was both modern and unobtrusive, said Jack Glavan, manager of Pikes Peak – America’s Mountain, which oversees the project. Architects combined elements of previous designs into the current vision.
An environmental assessment from the U.S. Forest Service isn't in yet, and the agency will have final say before construction starts.
