Denver’s mayor is asking for ideas on how to improve the relationship between the police department and the community.
Mayor Michael Hancock says that was one of the main themes he heard during forums he held on race relations that began in late 2014. Now he says that he’d like to reset the relationship between law enforcement and the community.
The mayor is offering small grants for events and projects that address police relations as well as other issues of race and justice.
"This mini challenge is really for the community to take control of how to design activities that might allow for a different engagement with the law enforcement community," Hancock said. "Maybe some block party activities that will bring law enforcement and have people see them in different light. Maybe some sporting activities between law enforcement and the community.”
The deadline to apply is April 1.
