Beth McCann is the Democratic nominee for Denver District Attorney. The state representative easily beat Kenneth Boyd, and Michael Carrigan who raised more money for his campaign than all the primary candidates combined.
The race was over before the sun set.
McCann thanked supporters and outlined her goals if she wins the general election, which is likely in this Democratic city.
"Sexual assault, human trafficking, child abuse, domestic violence, these are all issues that I will pledge to work on as hard as I can to keep our city safe from those things," she said Tuesday night when it was clear she'd won.
This was something of a comeback for McCann, who unsuccessfully ran or the office 12 years ago. This time she was able to overcome the money disadvantage thanks to heavy turnout among female voters, her campaign said.
This was the first primary in 12 years for the DA position. Current District Attorney Mitch Morrissey is term limited.
