Colorado had the highest voter registration rate in the nation in 2014, according to a new analysis out Tuesday.
Almost 87 percent of eligible adults in Colorado were registered to vote for the midterm election two years ago. The Pew Trust’s Election Performance Index evaluates state election policies for accessibility and reliability.
Colorado also does well on voter turnout – just over half of eligible adults cast a ballot in 2014, the third highest rate in the nation.
Overall, Colorado ranked sixth out of the 50 states on the Election Performance Index. In past reports, Colorado came in higher, but it has dropped a bit as other states have adopted new voter-friendly policies.
