Denver’s first protected two-way bikeway opens Monday.
The bikeway along a half-mile section of South Broadway is part of Denver’s efforts to enhance safety for bikers and drivers.
The bikeway in the far-left lane of South Broadway will span six blocks from Bayaud to Virginia.
New features along the route are meant to help reduce conflicts between cars and bikes, including new turn signals and painted green stripes where there are no traffic signals.
The goal is to have the bikeway in place for a total of 15 months. It will be evaluated from a safety and engineering perspective for a three-month period. A decision will be made after three months on whether to continue the study for another year.
