The weather has socked in a downtown Denver tradition ahead of the annual National Western Stock Show. The opening parade, which brings livestock and cowboys to streets of Denver, has been canceled due to the forecast.
The parade had been scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 5 and will not be rescheduled. The stock show will open as normal Jan. 7, 2017.
“The risk of animal injury and injury to people is far too great with the 4 to 8 inches of snow predicted and six degree temperatures,” said show president and CEO Paul Andrews in an emailed statement. “We invite everyone to come out to the grounds and celebrate the start of Stock Show with us this weekend.”
The forecast from the National Weather Service says snow is likely for Thursday, the intended parade day. Windy and a high temperature of 14 degrees are the order of the day. The weather in 2016 was far more forgiving, with a high temperature of 32 degrees.
