The Colorado Springs Sky Sox have a new name. The baseball team unveiled the new moniker Monday after months of build-up.
The Rocky Mountain Vibes is the name of Colorado Springs’ new rookie league baseball team, which is replacing the AAA Sky Sox at Security Service Field.
The franchise called on fans to submit name suggestions, and five finalists were selected in July -- including the Colorado Springs Happy Campers, the Punchy Pikas, the Throttle Jockeys, the Lamb Chops, and the Rocky Mountain Oysters. Vibes was not on the list, but manager Chris Phillips says the name captures the Colorado spirit embodied in all the suggestions.
“What we realized is we wanted to know what makes everybody that lives here such happy campers,” he explained. “What is that feeling or that emotion--that attitude? What is that vibe?”
The name, along with “Toasty,” the team’s new flaming s’more mascot, will make its home field debut in June of next year.
