Updated at 8:28 a.m. on Jan. 14: The union representing more than 8,000 King Soopers workers is heading back to the bargaining table today as day three of the strike gets underway. Read CPR's latest report on the ongoing strike right here.
Our original story and list of affected stores follows below.
Thousands of Colorado King Soopers workers plan to walk off the job Wednesday morning in protest of the company’s alleged unfair labor practices and latest contract offer. The action could disrupt operations at more than 60 stores in the Denver metro area.
Colorado Springs-area locations could see demonstrations later in the week. The union has decided to stagger strikes along the Front Range so workers from the metro area can support those in Colorado Springs and vice versa.
Workers will form picket lines outside of affected stores, said Kim Cordova, president of United Food and Commercial Workers Local 7.
“We will be asking customers to support us by not shopping at the stores and taking their business elsewhere while we're going through this dispute,” Cordova said.
Stores will remain open, with limited staffing. About 58 percent of King Soopers workers in Colorado are UFCW Local 7 members, according to the company.
The union provided CPR with a list of affected stores where worker contracts expired on Jan. 8. Colorado King Soopers and City Market stores not listed will not see demonstrations.
