PANDEMIC EXAGGERATES CAREGIVING UNCERTAINTY FOR FAMILIES AND THEIR LOVED ONES WITH DEMENTIA. Health Promotion Partners expands offerings and hosts a free Cognitive Wellness and Brain Health workshop on June 22, 2021.
For years, Health Promotion Partners has offered Fitness To Drive, the premier driver safety and occupational therapy evaluation program for adults and youth. As Dr. Terri Cassidy, CEO of Health Promotion Partners, provided comprehensive driver evaluations and adaptive mobility equipment training to the Colorado Springs community, she quickly realized that clients with cognitive deficits had more complex needs that were not being met. Added pressures during this pandemic year exaggerated the disconnect families had with their aging loved ones and Dr. Cassidy launched the Aging Well By Design concept.
Aging Well By Design combines in-home occupational therapy for individuals with dementia as well as the research-tested occupational therapy Skills2Care® program that teaches caregivers how to successfully manage the daily challenges of caring for someone with dementia. Dr. Cassidy and her team help navigate the journey of dementia with compassion and hope.
“All of our programs focus on optimizing the well-being, connection, and dignity of the aging person, while ensuring that their family members have the resources, guidance, and information to make thoughtful care decisions,” said Cassidy.
Kathryn Seibert, OTR/L at Health Promotion Partners continues, “As I work with family members of our dementia clients, I hear their lack of confidence in making the best decisions for their loved ones because they feel as though they don’t have access to resources or care partners along the way.” Aging Well By Design was created to provide that support.
Health Promotion Partners also recently expanded their services with new offices in Fort Collins and Westminster to bring much needed partnership, guidance and care to families beyond Colorado Springs.
In celebration of Brain Health Month this June, Health Promotion Partners is offering the community a FREE Cognitive Wellness and Brain Health workshop on June 22, 2021 from 3-4pm. Register for this virtual workshop at www.HealthPromotionPartners.com or by calling 719.231.6657.
“While supporting our clients with dementia, we know that cognition is at the center of everything we do. Cognition is essential to successfully perform everyday tasks like remembering to take medications and remembering doctor appointments,” says Seibert.
Presented by Kathryn Seibert, OTR/L and Christy Janzen, OTR/L, the free virtual class will cover key topics that caregivers often struggle with understanding:
The definition of Cognition
Normal Aging vs Cognitive Decline
Brain Healthy Lifestyle
Exercises for Cognitive Stimulation
The role of Occupational Therapy in Brain Health
