The public is welcome at this presentation of Legends of the Hidden Temple(s): Ancestors, Saints & Religious Landscapes in the Ancient Andes. – Excavations in Cosma, Peru. Dr. Kimberly Munro will speak of her work at the October meeting of the Pueblo Archaeological and Historical Society.
Her talk will cover some of the "adventure myths and legends" often associated with archaeologists like Indiana Jones and the ancient sites they explore. Dr. Munro’s presentation will focus on the Cosma Archaeological Complex, a large multi-component site dating back 5000 years, and located within an isolated river basin at the headwaters of the Nepena River Valley of North Central Peru. The site extends over 250 hectares and includes two multi-storied temple mounds, a megalithic hilltop fortress, domestic areas, agricultural terraces, above ground tombs, and carved stonework.
Dr. Munro, Assistant Professor of Anthropology at New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, New Mexicois an Andean archaeologist with over a decade of experience working in Peru. She is the director of the Cosma Archaeological Project, a long-term research project involving excavation and survey in the Andean central highlands, specifically in the Caceres District of Ancash, Peru.
