“Fruit” & “lost and found”
When
Event Description
Jacob Scott: Fruit
"My work investigates expression of emotion, identity, and history through a queered lens. My practice is based in the direct material expression of emotions on the page and in the round. I employ drawing because of the intrinsic truth and honesty of the mark on the page. I employ ceramics because they draw on the historical practice of record keeping as well as proof of existence. Both of these mediums speak to the fact that that as a queer person I want to be the author of my own story, with a sense of permanence. My work is driven by vibrant color and illustrative style inspired by the language of cartoons and by the attention culture of social media. I hope to grant an innocence to my work, through an illustrative expression, to offer space for idealism and light."
Noor Adwan: lost and found
"finders keepers! this body of work made use of exclusively secondhand substrates (or in a few cases, ones pulled from the trash). “lost and found” is a celebration of the old, the used and the worn. i encourage you to leave this show with a broader idea of what has the potential to constitute fine art, and a renewed appreciation for the humble and ordinary."
noor adwan is a palestinian-american painter from minneapolis. her work is often centered around the reclamation of broken or abandoned objects: thrifted housewares, broken instruments, and shattered glass are just a handful of the surfaces upon which you may see her work. her paintings themselves typically celebrate natural abundance and beauty, inviting viewers to cherish with her the little things that make the world so enchanting. to keep up with noor’s work, visit her instagram: instagram.com/artsypeach.
