Historical Forensics – Recovering the Past
When
Event Description
Ever mourned the lost works from the Library of Alexander or wished you could read the Volcano destroyed texts from Pompeii? Helen Davies (Ph.D., English) will discuss how the latest imaging technology can be used to recover lost, damaged, or otherwise illegible texts. We will see examples of texts destroyed by flood, war, erasure and faded with time that can now be read again. Dr. Davies will show us how this technology works and what we have learned from these “new” texts.
Lectures are presented Monthly on the 2nd Friday starting at 10:00 AM.
