Palmer Lake Historical Society Presents: “Nikki Stratton on the Life of Donald G. Stratton USS Arizona Survivor”
When
Event Description
Please join us for this special event from 7:00 pm-8:30 pm. (Doors open at 6:30 pm). Nikki Stratton will share the powerful story of her grandfather, Donald G. Stratton, whose courage and determination have inspired generations. A survivor of the USS Arizona during the attack on Pearl Harbor, he defied unimaginable odds to ensure his story—and those of his shipmates — would never be forgotten. Central to this legacy is the heroic act of Joe George, who defied orders to save her grandfather and five other sailors, an act of bravery that earned him a long-overdue Bronze Star decades later.
Nikki Stratton, a Colorado Springs native and youngest granddaughter of USS Arizona survivor Donald G. Stratton, is a passionate advocate for preserving the memory of Pearl Harbor. Her dedication to honoring her grandfather’s legacy has made her a sought-after keynote speaker, inspiring audiences with messages of leadership, resilience and remembrance.
Please bring a friend or two and stay after the program for light refreshments and socializing. All ages welcome. FREE and open to the public. In case of inclement weather we follow School District 38 for weather closures. We want everyone to be safe.

Today, as the Sponsor of the future USS Arizona submarine, Nikki is honored to continue this legacy by ensuring the resilience, sacrifice, and unity symbolized by the original battleship, live on. The USS Arizona SSN-803 represents not only a bridge between the past and present but also a steadfast reminder of the indomitable spirit of those who serve. Through these stories, we preserve history and honor, the determination, that has shaped our nation.

In 2020, Nikki was appointed by the Secretary of the Navy as Sponsor of the future USS Arizona (SSN-803), the first nuclear submarine to carry the Arizona name, symbolizing the enduring legacy of the 1,177 men lost aboard the USS Arizona BB-39. Through her role, she bridges history and innovation, ensuring the sacrifices of Pearl Harbor are never forgotten.
