Please join the Palmer Lake Historical Society to hear a beautiful story about sacrifice and honor. Jim Sawatzki, past president of the PLHS, will present his 30-minute video Above and Beyond - A Hero’s Story which recounts the life of William “Bill” J. Crawford, in his own words.
William “Bill” Crawford is perhaps best known for shocking cadets at the Air Force Academy in the 1980s: Their shy janitor, it turned out, was also a Medal of Honor recipient. He was a long-time resident of both Monument and Palmer Lake. In the year 2000, he passed away at the age of 81. His head stone reads: “For Love of God & Country” and William is buried with his wife at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.
Bring a friend or two and stay afterwards for light refreshments and socializing. Doors open at 6:30. Free and open to the public.
The Palmer Lake Historical Society is an educational 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization serving the Palmer Divide area since 1956.
In case of inclement weather we follow the District 38 school district weather closures.
