Event Description
“Thanks! I Hate it.” is an exploration into new color schemes, new shapes, while battling the same old demons. Exploring feelings of being tired, stuck, and wanting to run away from home. Sometimes the best way to cope is doing nothing at all… I hope the viewer can indulge themselves in the bright colors and quirky characters while they dive deeper into their own uncomfortable feelings. Let’s hate it together. -Deadhand
“My art deals with layers of flowers, fonts, geometry, and the aerosol décor of the urban environment. Using my tools, I create mashups of traditional subject matter and bright colors, letters, or ideas you see in everyday street art. My enjoyment of paint manipulation and involvement in all the processes allows me to translate loose brushwork and energetic mark making into fresh and new juxtaposed worlds. I love the built-up layers on a canvas like on the exterior walls of buildings. The story on the canvas has so much more to it than meets the eye. I grew up being wowed by the massive murals in El Paso. I hope that my work while not completely graffiti ends up in homes for people to love how, like I loved the art in the streets.” -Michael Steven Ortiz
