Event Description

The Belle of Amherst sheds new light on the radiant rebel that was and is the poet Emily Dickinson. She rarely left her bedroom. She requested her papers be burned. Yet, she is widely considered one of the English-speaking world’s greatest poets.
Set between 1830 and 1886 at her home in Massachusetts, this one-woman show takes us through some of Emily’s most significant encounters with important characters in her life. The Belle of Amherst invites you into the mystery of the reclusive woman who wrote those poems you read in high school. She was a woman of magnitude, humor, and feeling– a woman who defied conventional society’s mores in order to find freedom through her pen.
