Colorado state Rep. Daniel Pabon, D-Denver, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol on Thursday night, police records say.
Pabon was charged with DUI, turning improperly and misuse of license plates. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 18.
According to a probable cause statement from Denver police, Pabon was pulled over at Glenarm Place and Colfax Avenue for an illegal turn. Pabon's speech was slurred, his breath "had a strong odor" of alcohol and his eyes were bloodshot, the statement said.
Pabon has no prior no prior DUI convictions, according to the documents.
Pabon was a co-sponsor of a bill passed last year that makes the fourth drunken-driving charge in a lifetime a felony.
Colorado House Democrats and Pabon's office did not respond to requests for comment.
