Kyle Morton, frontman for the Portland, Ore., 11-piece indie act Typhoon, made time to play an acoustic set in our CPR Performance Studio before the band's sold-out set at Denver's Bluebird Theater on Thursday night. Typhoon's latest album, 2013's excellent "White Lighter," gained high praise from the likes of NPR and Paste Magazine for its scale of ambition and heavy subject matter.
However, Morton's set, performed solo and accompanied only by guitar or piano, stripped down the songs of "White Lighter" to their bare bones to unique versions of these songs you're unlikely to hear elsewhere. He also threw in a cover of The Microphones' "Great Ghost," and shared a story about meeting Microphones mastermind Phil Elvrum along with a few more of his musical heroes to host Alisha Sweeney.
BONUS: Stay tuned after the interview for additional interview audio with Morton about topics ranging from Nirvana to the Portland music scene.
