On this episode of Air Check, Jake and Vicky invite Colorado College Professor of Math and Computer Science, Beth Malmskog, to sit in on the roundtable music review. Prof. Malmskog knows quite a lot about prime numbers, but she also knows a thing or two about music, having hosted a music show at KRFC while in grad school in Fort Collins.
Also, singer-songwriter Laura Veirs stops by the station to play a couple songs in the studio, and she chats with Jeff about growing up in the Pikes Peak Region. Laura has since moved to Portland, and has worked with artists like Neko Case, K.D. Lang, Sufjan Stevens, Colin Meloy, and Bela Fleck, to name just a few. She is married to producer Tucker Martine, and her records have won her accolades from NPR, the New York Times, Spin and Rolling Stone magazines.

PART TWO: Laura Veirs
Laura Veirs recently played a concert in Colorado Springs at the Side Door, and we were lucky enough to pull her into the 91.5 KRCC Studios for an in-studio performance and interview. Laura grew up in Colorado Springs, and developed a love of the Rocky Mountains which is often reflected in her songwriting. Her marriage to record producer Tucker Martine has been a long and varied musical partnership, allowing them to work together and with other well-respected and established musicians. Laura dropped by the 91.5 KRCC Studios with her son Tennessee to play a couple songs and talk about her travels.
