Did you have a little trouble getting into the supermarket this weekend because somebody with a clipboard and a petition wanted your attention? It’s the time of year when activists are rushing to gather the required 98,000 signatures to place their initiatives on the ballot. The deadline for most campaigns to submit signatures is Aug. 8.
This year’s proposals reflect the issues that have dominated public debate in Colorado for years -- including oil and gas development, expanded beer and wine sales, universal health care and whether it’s too easy for voters to change the state constitution.
As of May 31, Colorado committees had raised $22 million for this year’s ballot measure campaigns. Colorado Matters host Ryan Warner spoke with producer Michelle P. Fulcher for an overview.
