English professor Flynn Hawkins lets life happen to him -- he marries a girl he doesn't love and teaches literature without thinking about whether he wants to spend his life talking to students about books. Colorado author David Hicks' debut novel, "White Plains," takes Hawkins from a life of quiet desperation to the high desert of Colorado to find his way. Hicks tells Colorado Matters host Andrea Dukakis he relished the challenge of forming a story around a passive character.
