Camp Amache in Southeastern Colorado looks desolate. But researchers are finding that what’s interesting there lies underground. Amache was one of ten internment camps where Japanese and Japanese-Americans from the West coast were sent after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. More than 7,000 people lived there in the three years the camp was open. This summer, University of Denver anthropologist Bonnie Clark, and her students, spent a month excavating the grounds. Two former camp residents also participated. This Fall, Clark will have her students analyze the artifacts they found. Interview originally aired August 30, 2010.
