John Akinboyewa of Denver created the HungreeApp as a way to prevent food waste.

Many of us have been there: you host a gathering at your home, attend a wedding, or there’s a team meeting at work, and when it’s over, there’s plenty of food left over. And many times, it ends up in the trash.

It’s estimated that 1.4 billion tons of food is wasted every year. And in Colorado, more than 670,000 people face food insecurity.

An engineer in Colorado has come up with a way to keep that extra food out of landfill and help someone in need at the same time. John Akinboyewa is the founder and creator of the HungreeApp. He spoke with Chandra Thomas Whitfield about the many ways he hopes to build community through food.
