A cup of tea and a fuzzy blanket can make you feel relaxed but they can also make you feel "hygge." It's a Danish word that roughly translates to "cozy." The glow of a candle can be hygge, as can a food-- like porridge. The word can also be used to describe the atmosphere of a cafe, a restaurant or a home.
The pursuit of hygge is a lifestyle for Danes and is ingrained in their culture. The Oxford English Dictionary put it on its shortlist for 2016's "Word of the Year," because it's become somewhat trendy in England.
The Hygge Life online retail shop was ahead of the curve. Co-founders Alexandra Gove and Koen van Renswoude live in Denver and started the shop in 2014. After spending time in Copenhagen, the couple wanted to bring the cozy Danish lifestyle to the U.S.
Gove and van Resnwoude spoke with Colorado Matters host Ryan Warner.
