For many the month of January signals new beginnings, a new start and a great time to begin taking steps toward making some long standing dreams come true. That’s exactly how Colorado musician Tony Exum, Jr. has kicked off his 2025.
The contemporary jazz, R&B, and funk saxophonist, songwriter, and performing artist who has shared a stage with the likes of Najee, Marcus Anderson and Colorado’s own Gerald Albright, kicked off the new year with a solo performance of the national anthem in front of a live audience at an NFL game.
"It was an honor," said Exum, Jr., "It felt like it was surreal. Am I really here?"
Exum, who is also a radio host and a regular at the annual Winter Park Jazz Festival, told Colorado Matters host Chandra Thomas Whitfield it was a career high to perform live in front of an estimated 70,000 people at SoFi stadium in Inglewood, California and that’s not including the millions watching on television.
