John Oates is one half of the most successful musical duo of all time. He met Daryl Hall in 1967 at a Philadelphia ballroom, where they joined forces over a shared love of Philly soul, doo-wop, and Motown before notching 18 studio albums, 11 live ones, 60 million records sold, and six number-one singles, including “Rich Girl,” “Maneater,” and “Private Eyes.”
Lately they’ve been riding a new wave of popularity, and will play Saturday night at Fiddler’s Green. Oates has a deep connection to Colorado, and owns a home in Aspen — it's up for sale if you're interested. He speaks with Colorado Matters about his life in music and the spotlight. We've also pulled together some music videos from back in the day.
