The Grammy Awards are a few weeks away, and one of this year's more surprising nominees comes from the contemporary classical composition category.
It’s music by Kip Winger -- who’s best known for fronting the heavy metal band Winger in the late 1980s. In recent years, though, he’s been composing orchestral music like "Conversations With Nijinsky," the piece that received the Grammy nomination:
Winger grew up in Colorado, and his music career has taken him all over the country. He joined host Nathan Heffel to talk about the journey from metal frontman to Grammy-nominated composer.
