New FDA guidelines for mammograms announced the month further enhance a state law that's been on the books in Colorado for six years. It requires doctors to notify patients about their breast density. Dense breast tissue can play a key role in detecting and treating breast cancer. Dr. Gretchen Ahrendt is a surgical oncologist at the University of Colorado Cancer Center. Christina Somes is a breast cancer survivor and is with the Colorado Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation which provides financial support for women undergoing breast cancer treatment.
