This Saturday, at a Tex-Mex chain restaurant in Westminster, the Unity Party will hold its annual convention. What makes this particular year significant is that it will be the party's first convention since it became an official minor party in Colorado. The Unity Party achieved that designation last month when it crossed the threshold of 1,000 registered voters.
Bill Hammons, who lives in Thornton, founded the party in November 2004, the day after that year's presidential election. Today, it has a presence in about 37 states and, according to its website, "is fighting for balanced budgets, term limits, the outlawing of partisan gerrymandering and many other common sense positions."
Hammons spoke with Colorado Matters host Ryan Warner.
