When people lose their jobs and homes, it can also be a financial challenge to care for pets, what with the cost of vet bills and pet deposits and food. The Humane Society of Weld County is seeing a significant increase in the numbers of people dropping off their pets, because they can no longer afford to care for them.The county is going through particulary rough times--it has the highest home foreclosure rate in Colorado for the first six months of this year, an unemployment rate that's higher than the state average. Ryan Warner talks with Elaine Hicks, the director of The Humane Society of Weld County.
