As cases of COVID-19 drop, research continues into the many mysteries of the virus. Among the questions is why some children get extremely ill from COVID-19. A recent study in the Journal of the American Medical Association examined cases of COVID in children across the country and found that once children are hospitalized, there are some factors that can help predict whether a child will develop a particularly severe case of the virus. Dr. Blake Martin, an assistant professor of pediatrics with the CU School of Medicine and a pediatric intensive care unit physician at Children's Hospital Colorado, co-wrote the study.
