We recently ran across an old postcard that was both fascinating and kind of disturbing. It shows a young woman on horseback in mid-air after the pair leaps from a towering wooden structure. A huge crowd looks on. We turned the postcard over and discovered it was taken in Pueblo in 1905. We wondered, what is the history behind this strange image? Jeremy Johnston, the curator of the Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody, Wyoming, has an answer. Johnston said the woman astride the diving horse may have been part of a travelling show operated by a sharpshooter named Doc Carver.
