The small town of Trinidad, Colorado has long had the nickname “Sex Change Capitol of the World.” That reputation started because of a local doctor who taught himself the procedure at the request of a male patient who wanted to become a woman. The late Dr. Stanley Biber retired in 2003 and Dr. Marci Bowers took over. After nearly eight years, Thursday, October 28, is her last day on the job. Dr. Bowers, who herself had this procedure, is leaving Trinidad to join a practice in San Francisco.
We hear from Dr. Bowers about why she feels the hospital in Trinidad has become an unfriendly place for her practice and we get reaction from hospital officials and the residents of Trinidad.
You can find our earlier interview with Dr. Bowers, remembering her mentor Dr. Biber, here.
