Employment Requirement: Colorado Public Radio (CPR) strives to maintain a workplace that keeps employees mentally and physically safe. Colorado Public Radio (CPR) is seeking a Max Wycisk News Fellow for Digital Audiences.

About the Fellowship:

The CPR News Fellow for Digital Audience’s work is connected to the overall success of CPR in attracting, earning trust of and developing relationships with audiences -- learning to measure their success and the newsroom's success through key performance indicators. They will produce clean and confidence-inspiring digital content on multiple platforms. The fellowship is specifically designed to support recent graduates and early career journalists, and folks looking to pivot into this field.

Key learning objectives for the experience include

  • Developing digital production skills through their contributions to CPR’s web content, social media, and newsletters.
  • Developing practical audience thinking skills (who is this story meant to serve, how might that impact how and when we produce and distribute it, how would we know if we were successful?).
  • Developing the skills to manage social media accounts for a public media group and assess engagement metrics and google analytics.
  • Developing editing and style judgment.
  • Understanding the key skills and experiences needed to pursue a career in public media.

About You

Our ideal candidate will have the following qualities:

You have experience coordinating social media accounts in some capacity. You have demonstrated experience thinking through how to reach audiences on social media, demonstrated experience writing and maintaining a newsletter, experience writing news copy, and strong AP style skills

  • Comfort with WordPress or something similar
  • Experience working under deadline, strong decision making under deadline skills
  • Good communication and the ability to coordinate coverage
  • Digital literacy as it relates to learning new tools, software and apps
  • Ethics around headline and photo images
  • An awareness of where to find audience data and how to utilize it to inform action.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Basic understanding of HTML, experience navigating a Content Management System and using analytics software.
  • The ability to navigate complex challenges and be resourceful in seeking solutions.
  • Familiarity with journalism, its practice and basic understanding of how news is gathered. Solid news judgment.
  • Experience with writing either for a news website or generally, good grasp of spelling and grammar, understanding of how to construct an argument. Ability to write in the voice of a publication.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people across many areas of interest and across platforms.
  • Dedicated to producing news that reflects and serves a diversity of potential audiences in Colorado through language, images and accessible tools.
  • Must have less than two years of relevant professional experience in the field of journalism. 

Education Equivalency

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Position Information:

Position Type: Full-Time, Temporary. The fellowship runs for 12 months, from September 2024-August of 2025. Employment beyond this date is not guaranteed.

Starting Pay: $20.80 Hourly (Budgeted for 40 hours per week)
